JHENE-AIKO-SAIL-OUT

Jhene Aiko has been in the game for a while hopping on tracks with the likes of Wale, J. Cole, and Drake. Now releasing her own EP, she is making her own mark in the game. Check the review after the jump.

1. “The Vapors” (feat. Vince Staples)

Singing “Can I hit it again?” Jhene smoothly opens her EP. Vince Staples’ rap wasn’t necessary as the song was strong already. This is a chill track to start the EP off with.

2. “Bed Peace” (feat. Childish Gambino)

Sweet song about beginning her day. She starts by waking up at 2:30pm, sparks a blunt, and then hits her boo up for some lovemaking. They miss work to get wasted together. Childish Gambino was the perfect fit for this song. He raps about chillin’ with his girl on a lazy day. This song describes the perfect day with the one you love.

3. “Stay Ready (What A Life)” (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

Jhene’s flow is very soulful. “No better time than now, that’s why I stay ready.” Kendrick kills his verse as usual. He raps about being reckless with his girl during sex. “After 24 bars, you get 24 hours,” is a nice way to end his verse. In “What a Life,” Jhene switches up to a more hip-hop flow. Love it! “If everything is dipped in gold, then baby it would never grow.” The beat is sick.

4. “WTH” (feat. Ab-Soul)

She sings about maybe getting way too high because she is slipping in and out. Ab-Soul raps about “real trippy shit.” “Smoking that lala talking to Allah,” is a hot line. This is a chill smokers tune.

5. “The Worst”

Jhene sings that her dude has done the worst “I don’t need you, but I want you.” She speaks to a struggle every girl knows. Mentioning that her man wasn’t shit until he met her, Jhene holds nothing back. Her rap towards the end is hot!

6. “3:16am”

Interesting beat. She sings that she is not afraid of falling, but asks what if she doesn’t. Jhene sings that she is right back where she was before, but not alone.

7. “Comfort Inn Ending”

She told dudes not to mess with hoes, thinking she was the only one. He proves that she has a weakness. “Why would you call it love, when you knew it wasn’t?” Heartfelt track to end the EP.

If you haven’t heard about Jhene Aiko by now, you’re slacking and def have some catching up to do! This girl is super talented with soulful melodies, relatable lyrics, and an overall smooth sound. Most of the features on the EP are on point too. It’s about time she dropped one. This piece will get you relaxing, thinking, and may even stir up some emotions. Can’t wait for “Souled Out” to drop next year.
